Diaper Project
Keeping babies clean, dry, and healthy
Why is United Way involved?
United Way of Mid Coast Maine is committed to helping give kids the best start.
We want to improve the health and well-being of babies by raising community awareness about the basic need for diapers. An adequate supply of diapers is essential to a baby’s health. Lacking an adequate supply of diapers can cause undue stress on both baby and parent. The lack of a sufficient supply of disposable diapers for a baby to remain clean, dry, and healthy can affect the short-term health of a child and impact long-term health and development.
Babies use up to 12 diapers per day--costing families up to $1,200 per year! Due to rising costs, the need for diapers in our community is high.
Today in our Mid Coast community, families are struggling to meet their basic needs. In addition to making hard choices on how to get the bills paid and food on the table, the safety net families rely on doesn't help with the cost of diapers.
The Diaper Project collects diapers and funds to purchase diapers through diaper drives held at businesses and organizations, and contributions from individuals and community groups. Diapers are repackaged by volunteers and distributed to local organizations supporting local families.
