United Way of Mid Coast Maine's History:

We are honored to have spent the last 67 years helping to improve people’s lives. 67 years of local people committed to our mission to mobilize the caring power of communities. Read below to learn more about our work, and visit our Community Impact page, Our Work. Choose from the drop down menu under "About Us" for more information about our board of directors, commitment to transparency and accountability, and more.

About Us:
Each community, however defined, has unique needs. Regardless of where we live, we share two commonalities: we are resourceful, and we take care of one another. Yet, the needs in each community is bigger than one town, or organization, can solve alone. We work together in many ways, yet we still face challenges that will take all of us, working together, to solve. United Way is in a unique position to bring people together—community partners, donors, and volunteers—around common goals: to give kids the best start, build financial stability, and help everyone live healthy and connected lives. So how do we accomplish these goals? By responding to community needs, building a community response, and working TOGETHER to solve community challenges. United Way is just one piece of the incredible, collective work it takes to improve lives in our community. Community members play many important roles to help make a difference—as donors, volunteers, partners, service providers, teachers, clients, community leaders, champions, and advocates. By working together, we can accomplish our mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities, and build a connected community where everyone belongs, has the resources they need, and can fulfill their potential.

United Way of Mid Coast Maine:
  • Serves the Southern Midcoast, including Lincoln and Sagadahoc, Counties, Brunswick and Harpswell. We also have a Knox County fund.
  • Is a locally governed and independently run non-profit organization comprised of community volunteers; we have been a trusted partner for almost 70 years.
  • Brings people together to solve community challenges that not one organization can do on their own.
  • Works with community partners, donors, and volunteers to give kids the best start, build financial stability, and help everyone live healthy and connected lives.
  • Invests in more than 50 local community programs and initiatives every year, helping more than 26,000 people—many of whom are our family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
  • Supports community partners to help them meet their missions as an advocate and advisor, connector and convener, funder and friend. We mobilize volunteers and connect the community to local programs and services, and help partners to respond to emerging and unmet needs through the Community Response Initiative.
