Maximize your Charitable Giving
Give Smarter with a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
If you’re age 70½ or older and have a Traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you can make a lasting difference in our community through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD lets you give directly from your Traditional IRA to United Way of Mid Coast Maine, reducing your taxable income while supporting local programs that help children, families, and seniors throughout the Midcoast, thrive. Your gift can also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year. To learn more, contact your Financial Advisor for details on how to make a QCD gift to United Way of Mid Coast Maine (EIN 01-6004866).
Gifting Appreciated Assets—A Real Win-Win!
Many people work with a tax advisor on strategies to lower their income taxes. If you hold appreciated assets—investments that have gone up in value and now have unrealized profit or capital gain, like stocks and mutual funds in a non-retirement account—gifting them to charity could be a good idea! Making an in-kind donation of these investments toward the mission of United Way of Mid Coast Maine is a real win-win. Depending on the amount of your gift, you may qualify for a tax deduction, avoid paying capital gains tax, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of people in need right here in our community!
