Program Investments
For 2009-2010, United Way of Mid Coast Maine is investing in the following programs
that are producing positive results and helping us make progress toward our Community Goals.
Catholic Charities MaineGreater Bath Elder Outreach Network
Eases the burdens of isolated, independent elder residents by providing the services
of a volunteer to help them in their homes or through transportation.
Damariscotta Family PlanningClinical Health Care Services
Provides state of the art reproductive health care, information, and screening and
treatment for sexually transmitted infections for men, women and teens.
Damariscotta Family PlanningCommunity Outreach Services
Promotes individual and community health by emphasizing clinical family planning
and related preventive health services for hard-to-reach populations, such as
uninsured or underinsured individuals, low-income, high risk, homeless, disabled,
incarcerated and/or substance abusers, adolescents, and other vulnerable or at-risk
populations.
ElderCare Network of Lincoln CountyOutreach to isolated seniors
Provides activities for residents of Medicaid-supported senior housing with
services provided at six different Lincoln County villages. This year the agency is piloting with United Way support a special outreach to isolated seniors using new technologies.
Family Crisis ServicesOutreach and Court Advocacy
Provides in Bath-Brunswick region one-on-one counseling; safety planning; assistance
with police, criminal and civil court systems; assistance in obtaining Protection from
Abuse Orders; and provides information and referrals to community resources.
Home to Home
Provides a safe, easily accessible location for separating/divorcing parents in
high-conflict relationships to exchange their children for visitations, and offers
parenting education and support groups for parents involved in high conflict divorces.
Hospice VolunteersCommunity Support Services
Provides non-medical supportive services to individuals and families coping with
dying and grief, and promotes community education and dialogues on end-of-life issues.
Lincoln AcademySchool-based Health Center/Behavioral Health Program
Behavioral Health Program provides mental health counseling at the Health Center to
adolescents grades 9-12 who have no or inadequate health insurance.
Merrymeeting AIDS Support ServicesCommunity Education
Offers up-to-date information, risk assessment and harm reduction regarding HIV/AIDS,
STD's and Hepatitis prevention. Provides prevention education in local schools, colleges,
universities, social service agencies and businesses.
Merrymeeting AIDS Support ServicesMen's Programming
Volunteer buddies are matched with clients with AIDS in order to alleviate isolation
and provide emotional and practical support. Provides accessible HIV/AIDS, STD's and
Viral Hepatitis counseling, testing and referral.
Mid Coast American Red CrossEmergency Services
Provides relief to victims of disaster, and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Mid Coast American Red CrossHealth & Safety Program
Provides community members with skills to act in emergencies - recognizing, preventing and
responding to life-threatening situations.
MSAD 75School-based Health Center
Health Center at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham provides access to urgent
medical care, preventive and behavioral health services to students who would
not otherwise receive care.
New Hope for WomenLincoln County Outreach
Provides services to battered women, their children, and all people affected by
domestic and dating violence. Services are divided between direct services and
prevention services.
OASIS Health NetworkFree Clinic
Offers free clinic in Brunswick for the poor and uninsured, providing access
to primary care services, routine dental care, routine eye care and glasses,
non-emergent mental health care and prescription medications.
OASIS Health NetworkCommunity Prescription Assistance
Provides support to low-income uninsured and underinsured who are unable to afford medication for chronic and mental health conditions.
People Plus CenterCommunity Outreach
Serves primarily lonely isolated older adults in Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell,
and offers one-one-one counseling and referral services.
Planned Parenthood of Northern New EnglandBrunswick/Topsham Clinic
Provides quality reproductive health care and sexuality education to women,
men, and teens at a price they can afford.
Respite Care
Provides supportive care and information through adult day care, support groups,
cousneling and education to families facing the disabilities of aging.
Sexual Assault Support ServicesSchool-based Education Program
Provides sexual violence awareness, risk reduction, and prevention-based educational
programs to prevent and reduce sexual abuse, sexual harassment and sexual assault
between and towards youth.
SweetserLearning and Recovery Center (Peer Center)
Provides consumers with supports and skills that promote recovery from disabling
mental disorders, trauma and substance abuse.
