Mission & Vision
OUR MISSION
To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.
OUR VISION
How the people of Mid Coast Maine will live and care for one another in 2022.
In the year 2022 our Mid Coast Maine community is a place where people can and want to live,
and in which future generations can prosper. People effectively help one another reach their
full potential, through generosity, support and volunteerism.
The community embraces its diverse population. Everyone has the opportunity to participate
in all facets of community life. Everyone is welcomed and included. Recognizing our interdependence,
people care for each other, teach and learn from each other, and reach out to people who are alone
or need help. People are engaged in meaningful community gatherings and celebrations. There is a
healthy network of community organizations that give people a sense of ownership and opportunities
to participate.
The basic needs of the people of Mid Coast Maine are being met more completely than ever before.
Food, safe and affordable housing, essential transportation and a livable wage are available to
everyone. People know where to go for help. Whatever their needs, they receive quick, friendly,
effective, and barrier-free assistance.
The highest quality health care, mental health care, dental care, and prescription drugs are
accessible to all. Wellness is fostered through effective education, prevention and action.
Prevention and treatment of drug and alcohol abuse are available to all. Support and respite
are available to people who provide care for others. Support is available to people who are
dying and to their loved ones.
This excellence in care extends to other groups as well. The needs of isolated, hurt and
disabled people are identified and promptly addressed. All people in our community live free
from abuse and violence. Indiviuals and communities are prepared for and able to respond
to emergencies.
All children in Mid Coast Maine enter school ready to learn and succeed. Parents are
supportive in their role by the community and helped to learn healthy parenting skills
to nurture their children. Children are read to from birth. There is high-quality,
affordable and accessible child care and early education for all.
People of all ages continue to learn and grow. Our community facilitates this lifelong
learning. Students have maximum opportunity to succeed because their health, educational
and social service needs are being met. Their indiviual progress is encouraged and valued.
At-risk youth have mentors and other effective programs to help them become responsible
members of the community. All people, and especially young people, have many choices for
positive activities and learning enrichment. Virtually everyone can read. Everyone,
including people with challenges and disabilities, has opportunities to reach their
full potential.
To help make this vision possible, United Way of Mid Coast Maine continues in its
mission to improve people's lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities.
