For 2005-2006, United Way of Mid Coast Maine is investing in the following programs that are producing positive results and helping us make progress toward our Community Goals.
Eases the burdens of isolated, independent elder residents by providing the services of a volunteer to help them in their homes or through transportation.
Provides state of the art reproductive health care, information, and screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections for men, women and teens.
- Damariscotta Family Planning - Community Outreach Services
Reduces unintended teen pregnancy rates, decreases the need for abortion, promotes preventive health and well-being, and fosters self-sufficiency, by providing comprehensive, medically accurate and age-appropriate sexuality education, services and resources.
- ElderCare Network of Lincoln County - Activities and Transportation Program
Provides activities for residents of Medicaid-supported senior housing with services provided at six different Lincoln County villages.
- Family Crisis Services- Bath Area Outreach
Provides access to emergency shelter for women and children who are forced to flee their homes due to domestic abuse and violence. Also provides advocacy services, prevention programming in the schools, and outreach to various segments of the community.
Provides a safe, easily accessible location for separating/divorcing parents in high-conflict relationships to exchange their children for visitations.
- Hospice Volunteers - Community Support Services
Provides non-medical supportive services to individuals and families coping with dying and grief, and promotes community education and dialogues on end-of-life issues.
- Merrymeeting AIDS Support Services - Community Education
Offers up-to-date information, risk assessment and harm reduction regarding HIV/AIDS, STD's and Hepatitis prevention. Provides prevention education in local schools, colleges, universities, social service agencies and businesses.
- Merrymeeting AIDS Support Services - The Buddy Program
Volunteer buddies are matched with clients with AIDS in order to alleviate isolation and provide emotional and practical support.
- Merrymeeting AIDS Support Services - Outright Program
Provides referral service for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender and questioning youth to put them in touch with youth-sponsored organizations that provide a non-judgmental community in which to talk about and explore their feelings about their sexual orientation.
- Mid Coast American Red Cross - Emergency Services
Provides relief to victims of disaster, and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
- Mid Coast American Red Cross - Health & Safety Program
Provides community members with skills to act in emergencies - recognizing, preventing and responding to life-threatening situations.
- MSAD 75 - School-based Health Center
Provides health center at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham with open enrollment to any student regardless of ability to pay. Provides primary care for acute illness and injury as well as chronic disease management.
- New Hope for Women - Lincoln County Outreach
Provides services to battered women, their children, and all people affected by domestic and dating violence. Services are divided between direct services and prevention services.
- OASIS Health Network - Free Clinic
Offers free clinic in Brunswick for the poor and uninsured, providing access to primary care services, routine dental care, routine eye care and glasses, non-emergent mental health care and prescription medications.
- People Plus Center - Community Outreach
Serves primarily lonely isolated older adults in Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell, and offers one-one-one counseling and referral services.
- Planned Parenthood of Northern New England - Brunswick Clinic
Provides, promotes and protects access to reproductive healthcare and sexuality education so that all people can make voluntary choices about their reproductive and sexual health.
Provides supportive care to individuals facing the disabilities of aging, and their caregivers.
- Sexual Assault Support Services - School-based Education Program
Provides information and awareness, promotes education, and develops community resources by supporting youth and encouraging a social climate in which sexual violence is unacceptable.
- Sweetser - Community Support Peer Program
Offers 24-hour support to adults recovering from the effects of trauma, mental illness and substance abuse.
- Sweetser - Therapeutic Recreation
Promotes and nurtures age-appropriate social behaviors by providing services and organized activities to middle school children who display behavioral problems in school or at home.
